Phy Says: Reality Show Overload

Hello there,

I used to like reality shows. Of course, I was young and naive then but I wasn't alone. At that time, reality shows only featured celebs (Paris Hilton, Kimora and Jessica Simpson with then-hubby Nick were among the early ones to do it) and getting insight into their lives really appealled to the masses. Over the years we have wised up. We know that not everything shown are real so we just watch them for laughs.

Nowadays however, not only are there more and more celebrities jumping on the reality show bandwagon. It seems that every Tom, Dick and Harry (not to mention every Nancy, Paige and Emily) out there are having their own show. Everytime an advertisment for a new reality programme airs on tv, I would be like, "Uh, annnddd who the eff is that?".

Even educational channels are touting reality programmes. Whyyyyyy???? I really don't get it! For example, Duck Dynasty. What on earth is it that we could learn from watching it? The worst one of them all? Amish Mafia. There is no words that could explain the absurdity (not to mention the abomination) of THAT one. It's just too much.

I've also noticed a trend in the names of these so-called reality shows. Among the popular ones:

1. Kings-Kings of Restoration, King of Cars.

2. Boss-Cake Boss, Bigg Boss, Boss Ladies.

3. Wars-Storage Wars, Whale Wars, Cupcake Wars, Parking Wars.

What are your views on reality shows? Do you love 'em, hate 'em or are you on the fence? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Thanks for reading this entry. Toodles.

Love,
Phy
